ASHI is the community. A group of people all moving toward one goal and that's taking care of our patients as well as we can. - Peter Lalli, PhD, D(ABHI)
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of longtime ASHI member and volunteer leader, Dr. Clara Gorodezky. Dr. Gorodezky was the Director of the Immunology and Immunogenetics Laboratories at Fundación Comparte Vida AC in Mexico City and made lasting contributions to our field.
From Clara's family:
“Clara was a dedicated leader in immunology and immunogenetics, passionate about advancing the field and improving lives. She cherished her work and found immense joy in mentoring and collaborating with her colleagues. Clara deeply loved her family, especially her dear husband Benito, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Her legacy as a scientist, mentor, and family member will forever inspire us all to strive for a better world.”

Dr. Clara Gorodezky Lauferman was an exceptional scientist, clinician, and educator. Her love for science was only surpassed by her love for her husband Benito, her children, and her grandchildren. Clara’s big heart extended that love to her friends from around the world. Clara not only excelled as a researcher but also as an educator. For more than 40 years, the Immunogenetics and Molecular Genetics Courses trained experts throughout Latin America.
Clara’s love for the Mexican people led to anthropological studies that revealed the great genetic variety and individuality of indigenous populations and led to the creation of the Mexican bone marrow registry and cord blood bank.
Clara was a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and a Councilor for the HLA and Immunogenetics International Workshops. She was a beloved member of the ASHI community and was honored with the Distinguished Scientist Award. Her legacy will continue as an enduring example of love for humanity.
