ASHI Committees

Our volunteers work conscientiously to advance ASHI’s strategic initiatives through their leadership and dedication to advancing the science, education and application of immunogenetics and transplant immunology. ASHI committees allow you the opportunity to exchange ideas with peers, build a robust network, and expand your professional development opportunities.

Committee positions are available for a term of three years, and are usually filled two months prior to the annual meeting each year and on a rolling basis as needed.  Should you desire, you can choose more than one committee.

Micro-volunteering opportunities are short-term, low time commitment volunteer activities.

WHO: Open to all! Ideally suited for first-time volunteers!

WHAT:
These positions vary in nature. Examples include writing an article for the ASHI Quarterly, posting to the online Forums, helping at the annual meeting or promoting the value of ASHI membership on Social media. The micro-volunteering opportunities are organized by committee as bullet points.

WHEN:
Applications are accepted year round, however most positions will be filled in the months leading up to the annual meeting (June – August). Committee leaders will reach out to interested volunteers on an as-needed basis.

WHY:
Enhance your CV with volunteerism and connect with your ASHI colleagues while maintaining flexibility in your busy schedule.

HOW:
Complete the online Volunteer Form to tell us your preferred areas of service. The committee chair for your selections will contact you as opportunities arise.

ASHI Directors' Mentor - Mentee Program

The ASHI Directors' Mentor / Mentee Program is dedicated to helping new Directors advance in their careers. The program pairs new Directors with more experienced Directors on an informal basis for the purpose of providing one-on-one guidance and advice to the newer Directors (mentees.) An experienced Director will volunteer to serve as a mentor to a less experienced Director for at least a period of one year, during which time the mentor and mentee are encouraged to communicate on a monthly basis for discussions on mutually agreed topics.

The mentor will be encouraged to share experiences, feedback, and provide insights related to career guidance or career advancement. The mentee should enter into the mentor relationship with the goal of career enhancement and professional development.

Please note the following guidelines:
Mentors must have at least 5 years of HLA experience
Mentees are new Directors with less than 5 years of experience
Both mentors and mentees must be current members of ASHI in order to participate
This program is not available for aspiring Directors (those interested in becoming a Director)
