UNOS “Histocompatibility Learning Series: Topic #1 - The Basics of Immunology Now Available!

Your body’s immune system defends itself with a remarkable ability to distinguish “self” from “non-self” to protect the body from invading pathogens and to eliminate modified or altered cells. It is made up of a system of cells, tissues, and molecules that help to detect foreign substances by producing an immune response. In organ transplantation, the new organ is recognized as a “non-self” target causing the body’s immune system to stimulate a response to destroy it.

Locate “The Basics of Immunology” in the UNOS Connect course catalog Histo category. This offering can also be found on the Histocompatibility Learning Series page in UNOS Connect. Click the Learning Series library on the left, then select the Histocompatibility Learning Series. Register for the offering and click Entrance Survey to begin. This offering lasts approximately 13 minutes.

As a designated Approved Provider by ABTC, UNOS will grant 0.25 Category 1 Continuing Education Points for Transplant Certification (CEPTC). Once you pass the assessment and complete the exit survey, your certificate will be available on your transcript.”
