Proficiency Testing Program

ASHI is pleased to announce the 10th year of its comprehensive proficiency testing program.

  • Our program utilizes clinically-based samples to assess a laboratory’s ability to accurately perform its analyses. Specimens are characterized by recognized experts in histocompatibility testing with oversight by ASHI’s Proficiency Testing Committee.
  • Current survey categories, designed to emulate routine clinical testing, will be maintained: HLA Typing (Class I & II in the same survey), HLA-B27 Detection, Engraftment Monitoring, and Antibody Screening/Identification and Crossmatching.
  • To further emulate clinical testing, Class I & II antibody tests and T & B cell crossmatching are reported using the same serum and cell samples. In addition, whole blood samples are provided for both typing and crossmatching tests.
  • Modular configuration of the surveys provides flexibility and cost savings. Additional cost savings are possible with the new 2012 Typing Survey configuration.
  • Surveys continue to feature a user-friendly data submission Web site for easy results entry.
  • Summary Reports and concurrent individual Performance Reports present data in a concise and informative fashion, with emphasis on the educational goals of the ASHI Proficiency Testing Program.
  • As always, the program is designed to fully meet the latest ASHI standards for laboratory accreditation.
  • ASHI is accepted by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) as an alternative proficiency testing program provider for the HLA Typing, HLA-B27 Detection, and Antibody Screening/Identification and Crossmatching surveys. If your laboratory is accredited by CAP, ASHI is able to report your ASHI PT Survey Performance Reports directly to CAP.
  • ASHI-accredited laboratories may choose to have their ASHI PT Survey Reports sent directly to the ASHI Accreditation Review Board (ARB).

If you are a new lab and have not registered before, please contact Cecilia Blair at the ASHI central office at .
