  • Responsibilities: Perform transplant related histocompatibility testing (tissue typing), including serologic and molecular (DNA-based) assays, donor crossmatching and antibody screening using serology and flow cytometry procedures. Once trained, position will require on-call rotation with 3 other technologists, one week per month. Technologist must be able to work independently and be capable of making critical decisions on clinical organ transplant allocation and effectively troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Minimum requirements: BA or BS in a biological science or medical technology (ASCP-certified). Background in immunology, genetics or molecular biology preferred. Position requires a career-oriented person who has exceptional verbal communication and organizational skills. Prior experience in histocompatibility testing not essential: senior staff will thoroughly train a highly motivated individual in both theoretical and practical aspects of this challenging clinical science.

Hematology Lab Services

The Hematology Laboratory performs routine hematology procedures, fluid cell counts, routine coagulation and urinalysis testing, special hematology testing, special stains, and Immunophenotyping.  The laboratory is open 24 hours, 7 days/week.  All results are available via the computer immediately after verification by the laboratory technologist.  Manual differentials are only performed when ordered and only if abnormal flags occur during testing on the cell counter.  Upon special request, a blood smear will be prepared and stained for House Staff review.  Indicate request on patient requisition.

Flow Cytometry analysis is available on blood, tissue or bone marrow for Leukemia/Lymphoma Phenotyping and T cell subsets.

Requirements

Position Objective

This position is responsible for supporting commercial operations with pre and post-sale, field-based technical application support of a certain product segment. Essential Functions

Nature and Scope

Education

Requires a B.S. or B.A. in molecular biology, immunology or similar field. An M.S./Ph.D. is preferred.

Experience

Requires a minimum of three (3) years in a laboratory environment working in immunology. Experience in molecular biology or HLA lab environment is preferred. Proven experience in the scientific techniques and technology specific to assignment. Knowledge of relevant markets (i.e., academic, biotech, pharmaceuticals) as well as molecular biological topics and products. Experience in customer facing roles (i.e., sales, support, etc.) is preferred. Requires self-motivation and the ability to work independently. Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills at all business levels required.

Working Conditions

This role works primarily out of your home office and frequent travel to customer labs is required, up to 75% of the time. Customer’s are mostly in a laboratory environment. Technical Sales Specialist

The Technical Sales Specialist is a field sales position. The Sales Specialist will be the primary driver of Transplant Diagnostic business development at assigned major accounts to penetrate and grow current and new business. The Sales Specialist will be a recognized as a technical leader within the sales force.

PLAN PERFORMANCE AND SALES SKILLS

  • Consistently achieve or exceed the territory sales plan by maintaining existing business, developing incremental business in existing accounts, finding new opportunity to develop new accounts, and drive growth in the transplant diagnostics workflow
  • Drive sales activities to close sales opportunities and assist other members of the sales and marketing organization to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of the transplant diagnostic workflow to serve as the field-based expert in this portfolio.
  • Demonstrate use of selling skills in the field, such as making good opening statements, connecting with the customer, asking qualifying questions, creating the value proposition and closing. Has proven solution selling skills.

The Transplant and Immunogenetics Lab provides histocompatibility testing and immunological monitoring services supporting the kidney, pancreas, and heart, transplant programs of a major teaching hospital, and the regional OPO. We have an immediate opening for a technologist to join our growing laboratory. Specific responsibilities include tissue typing, antibody screening, and crossmatching. The laboratory utilizes the full range of techniques including complementdependent cytotoxicity, flow cytometry, Luminex and molecular methods. The position shares oncall responsibilities as part of a great team of nine technologists.

Minimum qualifications include a B.S. degree in Medical Technology, Biology or other life science. One year of clinical experience in an accredited HLA laboratory and ABHI certification is desirable, but not required. Preference will be given to experienced applicants. However, training will be provided to recent graduates or those without sufficient HLA experience. A focus on quality, teamwork and customer service, as well as the ability to think clearly and perform well under pressure, is essential. Incumbent will be required to obtain minimum credentials (CHT) within two years of employment.

Laboratory Technologist

We are seeking a talented full-time Technologist for our clinical Histocompatibility (HLA) Laboratory.  This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has an interest in immunology, transplantation and transfusion support.  Our laboratory provides a full range of clinical services to hospitals and transplant centers throughout New England.  Our laboratory is conveniently located just 10 miles south of Boston, MA.

Job Summary

Responsible for performing serological, molecular and immunological testing of patients, donors and contract samples; participates in the educational and developmental activities of the laboratory and assists in the training of other technologists.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs serological, molecular and immunological procedures that include DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequence based typing, probe hybridization/detection, cytotoxic crossmatching, antibody screens, luminex assays and other procedures as defined.
  • Assists in evaluating and implementing new laboratory techniques and/or procedures. 
  • Orders and prepares reagents; performs reagent quality control.
  • Participates and/or assists in laboratory education and training.  Attends continuing education programs. 
  • Communicates with hospital or transfusion facility personnel to report patient findings and/or receive orders.
  • Reviews and interprets final results; prepares reports, written or electronic.
  • Complies with state and federal regulations, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR’s) Blood Services Directives (BSD’s) American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) Standards, American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Standards (ASHI) and the Red Cross New England Region policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and MT (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) certification;

This is a full time day shift senior laboratory position with administrative on-call duties .

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of histocompatibility testing experience. Certification at the Specialists level in Histocompatibility (ABHI) is preferred. Registered Medical Technologist with 5 years of Histocompatibility experience is also acceptable.

The preferred candidate will work independently under the general supervision of the HLA Laboratory Director, performing STAT analyses requiring complex methods to identify and match transplant recipients with potential donors.  Both deceased and living donor transplantation is performed at Maine Medical Center.   Recognizes problems, identifies the cause (technical, instrumental, or physiological), synthesizes alternatives and determines solutions where no preset criteria are available. Correlates and interprets data based on knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results.
 
Consistently verifies that only properly identified and acceptable patients specimens are analyzed. Prepares, transports, and/or stores specimens using established procedure to ensure specimen integrity. Performs complex and technically demanding analyses and procedures using a variety of manual techniques and instrumentation, calculating results as needed. Conducts established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media and products, evaluating results and implementing and documenting corrective action when indicated.   On-call rotation responsibilities are required as well as maintaining close interactions with the transplant coordinators and clients.
 
Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, practices and theory required through a Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, or related field.  Knowledge of immunology is required.  One year of training in human histocompatability testing meeting ASHI Standards to include serologic and molecular HLA typing, HLA antibody screening, CDC and Flow Cytometric Analysis, crossmatching and ABO blood grouping.  Certification by the American Board of Histocompatability and Immunogenetics (CHT or CHS) is preferred but not required.

Lehigh Valley Hospital is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Histocompatibility Technologist in our HLA (tissue typing) Laboratory. The laboratory mainly provides histocompatibility testing for the renal and pancreas transplant program. Duties will include:

  • Performing both serologic and low resolution SSP typing
  • Running and analyzing PRAs
  • Performing T & B serologic cross-matching by cytotoxicity methods as well as flow cytometry

This position includes shared on-call responsibilities pertaining to tissue typing and cross-matching of deceased donors. This is a full-time position. The hours can be somewhat flexible. The Histocompatiblity Laboratory at the University of Michigan supports Solid Organ and Bone Marrow transplantation programs.
